You are so brave. I hope you are able to overcome Ana once and for all. I used to work with young girls with eating disorders. It is very difficult once it becomes entrnched. Well done. Acknowledgement is always the first step. Good luck with your internship.

This video is inspiring. I too struggled with an eating disorder throughout middle school, high shcool, and college, and I am now a therapist specializing with the eating disorder population. There needs to be more awareness of eating disorders in general, and especially within the African American community. Thank you for sharing your story.

Thank you for sharing that. 25 years ago, it was no more acknowledged, and yet, black girls with ED were out there. I'm so glad you're recovering, and I admire you so much for facing your problems and finding it in yourself to honor your body and your life potential. Let me tell you, the physical consequences of that abuse can pop up years later. Keep taking care and being good to yourself! And thank you again for your courage...

@160Days2Lose2 I go to Eastern now. I was about to comment and say that sounds like my school campus. It is a struggle; The rec is my best friend i recently gained 30lbs over the two years of attending EMU. It's time for me to be healthy again.
your so pretty. Is this a true story?? xx

This hits too close to home for me. Did you go to Eastern? EMU? Because my ED started heavy my freshman year there. They had the eatery with the A&W and the the Taco Bell on the bottom level and the McDonald's across the street. This sounds all too familiar.

This is incredible and moving. It's true that ED's are hardly talked about in the black community and it is also true that EDs tend to be thought of as mainly anorexia and bulimia but yet there are many black people who struggle with overeating/binge eating. None is more or less deserving of attention. Having lived with EDs for over half my life, my only wish is that there would be more awareness/education about EDs within the black community. Thank you for being so willing to share ur story. x

@srebotnik1 You are so right. In the Black community, bulimia is more prevalent than anorexia. I recently ran across across this article, pbs [dot]org/wgbh/nova/thin/minorities [dot] html. It is really informative about eating disorders and minority women.
