I grew up off Meadow RD in Sandston and as a child I would wander around the Elko area where this was. It was easier to see the water tower back then. I hear it's for sale now and if you go to check it out, the police will run you off.

SOOO It was supposed to be a mental health communtiy for blacks but the white VA natives bitched and protested until it was aborted.Sounds like VA! Pure hatred grows there. I first encountered racism there as a teen (Im from DC) and Ive hated that godforsaken state ever since. I know theres plenty of good ppl there ,black and white but that dont mean I gotta visit. Y'all can have it!
Interesting. I've lived in Richmond for most of my adult life and never heard about it before. There is a similar area (Gunston) in the DC suburbs of Va. but I don't know why it never developed either.
A side note: It was the 50's. Racism was a problem everywhere. Richmond was/is not unique. My 18 years in DC showed me that AA's (african Amer....) today are generally as racist as the CA's (caucasion amer...) were in the 50's. Isn't it time for all of us to forgive and accept each other?
