@TheMrBlinx start up, did you here the air going into the cylinder right before he ended it? I watch trains start by my house (Port Jervis) all the time.

@hitman600RR these 3600 series engines are mostly started by air strater bolting straight to the housing your are correct!

I used to work at the plant they made this.. Lafayette IN. For clarification, you are probably hearing the engine in the *next* test cell at the beginning, then you hear this one start, and burble very lowly. They don't just blast them wide open on the first start, if ever. There are 2 test cells side by side and you can hear the engines running in almost any part of the plant, and especially right in the cells.

@carcomp101 the engine running in the background is a 3304 which is one of the generators on this tugboat

This is not a "start up" - if anything, it's a shutdown. Your title is a LIE!

listen the clip, and hear when the air enters in to the cylider. you must hear the air
and for locomotive start, I do not know. I was talking about big engines, marine diesel engines

trust me, im not lying, i have physically changed the airstarter(not electric) on this engine and the port engine as well(multiple times), its is an ingersoll rand with a veins and gear, and it turns the flywheel. I know exactly what your talking about, but that application isn't on this engine, i have worked on B&W engine with that type of air start though
