Belongs to a genus of ctenophora. A remarkable species known for its brilliant iridescent colors and its girdlike form. This transparent animal moves in water like a snake. The mouth is situated in a central depression. Four rows of pallets cause light reflections along the animal's entire length. The other four rows of pallets (the ctenophores are characterized by eight rows of ciliated pallets) are secondarily reduced and unobservable submerged. The Belt of Venus can reach 1.5 m in length, 5-8 cm wide and 1cm thick.
