Bruce Springsteen - Born In The U.S.A. (STUDIO)

Born down in a dead man's town
The first kick I took was when I hit the ground
You end up like a dog that's been beat too much
Till you spend half your life just covering up

Born in the U.S.A.
I was born in the U.S.A.
I was born in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.

Got in a little hometown jam
So they put a rifle in my hand
Sent me off to a foreign land
To go and kill the yellow man

Born in the U.S.A.
I was born in the U.S.A.
I was born in the U.S.A.
I was born in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.

Come back home to the refinery
Hiring man says "Son if it was up to me"
Went down to see my V.A. man
He said "Son, don't you understand"

I had a brother at Khe Sahn fighting off the Viet Cong
They're still there, he's all gone

He had a woman he loved in Saigon
I got a picture of him in her arms now

Down in the shadow of the penitentiary
Out by the gas fires of the refinery
I'm ten years burning down the road
Nowhere to run ain't got nowhere to go

Born in the U.S.A.
I was born in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.
I'm a long gone Daddy in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.
I'm a cool rocking Daddy in the U.S.A.

You are correct. It most definitely is about that. At least your question wasn't about how this is an anti-american song about how America is bad. I honestly never understand where people get that from. :S

No, but it is definitely saying where is that love for all of it's soldiers returning from the Vietnam war.

Sorry that's not what it is about. It is about returning veterans from the war and how they were treated poorly. The line "Born in the USA" is sort of a question as if the person is saying, "Was I not born in the USA? Shouldn't things be better for me, because I gave my all fighting for my country?" Nothing what so ever in this song talks about the criticism of America's role in the Vietnam War. More of the government's treatment of it's working class citizens who fought in the war.

Hi! This is from New Zealand...

The Vietnam War effected many Servicemen and Women.

Our boys were treated like dirt on their return from that theatre of Conflict.

And I can understand as to why so many went bush...could not handle the difference between constant action and relative quiet.

That is what "Born in the U.S.A." is really about.

Disagree with me if you like.

Never seen Springsteen in action....live too far away.

    Still a fine musician.

This song criticizes the USA of their crimes in the Vietnam War.That isn't racist.

I think he's describing what he was told to do, not his opinion, so they called them "yellow" not him

Every war has a story. Win or lose, I'm proud to be born in the USA. I didn't just show up and claim to be an American when I can't even speak English. This song wasn't meant for you.
