Here are the games I played for the week of 11-01-2009

Sorry for this being late. I haven't played a game for the last two days, because I've been busy, but here are the games I played earlier in the week:

Gradius III (Snes)-

I didn't play this as heavily as I did the other games, but I popped it in for a decent amount of playing time. Call me a wussy, but yes, I played it on easy. I'm just trying to learn the game first. I'm playing on normal in this footage.

I also have the PS2 port of Gradius III and IV, and the Snes port is missing a few things from the arcade original, but the PS2 port is insanely hard. It's a good buy though, because you get two Gradius games in the package.

Lufia & the Fortress of Doom (Snes)-

I've had this for a few years now, but have yet to give it a playthrough. I posted the first ten minutes of footage of the game. I'm not that far in, and I'm already past level 20 with my main guy in the game (Dooky).

This is definitely for those with oldschool RPG tastes, because it throws an insane amount of random battles your way. I thought other 16-bit RPGs were bad for random battles, but Lufia takes the cake. Sometimes I get two steps out of a battle, just to get into another battle.

In the game's defense, there is an item that makes the random battles occur less frequently, but even then, they still appear a lot more frequent than in other RPGs.

Rival Turf (Snes)-

I got this game in the mail earlier this week after I ordered it from Amazon. I played it a friend's house when I was young, and thought it was a decent, but generic beat 'em up, and my assessment hasn't changed even though it's been easily over a decade since I played it last.

Rival Turf was an early beat 'em up for the Snes, and in it's defense, it actually one-ups the Snes port of Final Fight (a port of which I'm not a big fan of, and feel no need to play it now that I have the arcade version in one of the Capcom Classics Collections on the PS2), because it allows for two player coop.

Like I said, it's generic, and the enemies take off a ton, but it's not horrible, just unspectacular.

Zero Tolerance (Genesis)-

This one hasn't aged particularly well, but I've always been curious about it, so I ordered it from Amazon as well.

It's interesting to see a FPS on the plain old Genesis. No Sega 32X needed here, it's all on an original Genesis cart.

It's a standard Wolfenstein style FPS, and it's rather hard. This is more of a curiosity buy if you're interested, but it's definitely cool to play a FPS on the Genesis. Makes you wonder why Sega even bothered with the 32X if the Genesis alone was capable of handeling games like this, and VR.

Granted, this game can get rather choppy and sluggish at times.

Yes, I am playing as a Female. Seriously, that's a gurl.

=======

For the Sunshine hints vid, I got that footage off of an old 2002 Gamecube Sneak Preview DVD that retailers used to give out for free.

For the last one, I got it off of Demo Disk 2.2 on the PS2

  • all u are total nerds... just like my little bro... i feel srry for u D:

  • Zero Tolerence. YES! You like my favourite character, so good she can bend bullits (a weird glitch with lazer aimed gun on the skyscraper, the dot doesn't move with the auto aim, which is weird.

There was an unfinished squal you can get on RoM. It a pile of arse and chips, but if you ever finish the first, worth checking out.

Lastly, ZT is boken into 3, if you get 1 third through the game, you get a password no matter what, so it is possable to just run down stairs and finish it that way.

  • i love capcom

though ive never played any onimusha...

  • yeah nice to see zero tolerance in it ^^ best fps on the mega drive !!

  • I like how, you supply me with games to look out for like every week.

I can't believe you aren't more popular, but i'm glad you're like this, so you can reply to comments. :)

  • You definatly like old games, considering you have played more 5th gen consoles lately then 6th or 7th gen consoles

  • Nice games, I think especially Mario Sunshine has been underrated as it was a good game.
