Also, wax is very useful. Not for forming the dread itself, but for helping already formed dreads to tighten up. It calms my loose hairs until I can get to them also, as I won't use any other hair products. I've had dreads for a long time. I know there are some people who say not to use it for whatever reason, but it's probably the only thing I trust on my head. Get the REAL beeswax too, not the fake shit they sell at Sally's which is mostly Vaseline.

Interlocking is not a preferred method of dreading your hair, because it's essentially the same as braiding and does not allow the dread to properly lock up. I would really advise against interlocking to form or tighten the dread roots. Try backcombing and palmrolling. Good advice on the salt water though. Dread Head HQ Lock Pepper is some of the BEST hair product I've ever used, by the way. REALLY worth the price. You don't get a ton of it but it's worth it's weight in gold.

@XIDoStuffX well I read that the sea salt creates a rougher film and when the water dries on your hair, the salt helps lock it up. it really does work though. even without dreads when I want a rougher "beachy" texture I put my salt water in my hair.
