For most of earths history there were no ice caps, it was much warmer than it is today. Indeed earth is still recovering from an ice age and we should expect warming from this. Non-AGW proponents and weather forecasters predict cooling to occur over the next 100 years.

Why would the government lie to us about Climate Change? What is there to gain from it?

See all these people killing each other around the world? I should I not kill also? See all these people stilling why not me also to get rich?... that the problem with people they think like sheep, and consider them self as insignificant to make a difference as a sheep is among others.
If people pressure their governments they can also turn off some of the big companies lights, but if they simply say others do the same then there is nothing to do.
