do i need previous experience with modeling to join this program? I really want to work in the industry I just have no idea where to go or how to start

@brokenbones199 Hi, you don't necessarily need modeling experience but it is definitely beneficial to have. You will need some art experience and we will ask for a portfolio as a part of the application process. Your best bet would be to contact one of our Admissions Advisors online at vfs(dot)com/speak-to-advisor and they will be able to give you a better idea of what we are looking for in a portfolio. Thanks!

What software did you use for this? Actually, those videos you've created?
jreeddox 1 year ago
@jreeddox Students in our 3D Animation & Visual Effects program typically use Maya and/or XSI, as well as ZBrush or Renderman depending on what their needs are. At VFS our philosophy is that software, while obviously important to the animation, visual effects and modeling process, is only a tool. We focus on teaching the skills that are necessary to use these tools, and not just on the tools themselves. Thanks!

@VancouverFilmSchool Ah! Can you use blender for these?
jreeddox 1 year ago
@jreeddox Maya and XSI are typically seen as the standard in the industry, so we choose to teach them to better prepare our students for the work force. However, you could use Blender to create models on a similar level. The software you choose to use is really just the tool, as long as you have the skills to use it you can make great models.
