Molecular Pathology at Intermountain Medical Center utilizes an FDA emergency cleared H1N1 (2009) Influenza Virus kit to detect Swine flu. Testing began Wednesday, September 30th, 2009, and the number of requests has only increased as the community and clinicians alike learn of its availability. Extracting the RNA virus takes approximately two hours followed by an additional two and a half hours to perform the actual analysis. Another half hour to one hour is necessary for technologists to review and interpret that data prior to releasing results.
