I don't understand most of the comments here about "Wesker is what made Resident Evil", or "Without Wesker it can't be Resident Evil". Umm, correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought what made Resident Evil were the zombies and the viral outbreaks. So if Capcom were to make a Resident Evil game with zombies, monsters and viral outbreaks, but no Wesker, then it's not really Resident Evil? That makes no sense. Resident Evil was never popular because of Wesker; it was popular because it was scary.

@Sanguiluna well i have to agree with you to some extent! However, the character of wesker has been of immense significance if yo have been playing it from 1996 with his unique style and mastermind plans! So without him it's going to be pretty odd!

No...Wesker died. It's the worst thing that the developers could do but they killed him. It was confirmed by one ofthe games producers.

Also Wesker was the last (known) member of umbrella of any real significance as spencers dead, the ashworth family is dead, the burkins are dead, Alex weskers M.I.A and ever other X.O and significant researcher is dead or written out of the story.

@Sanguiluna but wesker was the only person in the Res continuity that they could cast as a honest to god sociopathic, nigh invulnerable, completely irredeemable villain as well as being one of the 4 surviving members of stars Alpha and the last surviving person who was (even if only partly) responsible for the raccoon city outbreak which started the series. Killing him off is like killing of Voldemort, try as you might to carry on the story without him it wont be the same. Hence the reboot.

@HL5IHarrier The original title of Resident Evil is "Biohazard". Just based on the title, we know that the main focus of the series are the various viral outbreaks that occur in the games and the consequences they bring, not on any two characters. Besides, Chris and Wesker's rivalry is only significant in 2 games of the series: Code Veronica and RE5.

If anything, the main rivalry of the series is between the Raccoon City survivors and the Umbrella Corporation.

@SanguilunaB The Resident Evil Story is about Wesker and Chris's Rivalry. Yes, it was popular amongst Fans because of it old Horror factor. But the Foundation Plot is about wesker v Chris. In Res1 It was about Wesker's Evaluation of the T-Virus B.O.Ws on the STARS members. And after the Destruction of Racoon city it was about Chris hunting down Wesker while he created more dangerous and advanced viruses for himself.
