Watch what he's doing with this thumb when he begins a phrase. He's strumming his thumb down while the strings are muted and at the same time uses his fingertips to pluck the notes. Using his thumb is what gives that low, chunky thwump that gives the notes that he hits so much more body and punch. Derek Trucks does this all the damn time. Sounds so good.

Play any in D tuning. I was looking at your DVD and will be ordering the Full set looks like a good deal for the prise aswell.

Do you play that guitar for slide primarily? Is it set with higher action? I've heard people say to just leave your guitar as is and learn to play it with low action. Just seems easier to play it higher to me.

what string gauge are you using? im using 11s but they still feel too light with a slide. im using 16s on my dobro hehe.

Those are .011s. I been trying out .010s lately.

74 Fender twin and an Ibanez tubescreamer. The reverb on the Twin really helps the sound.
