yeah, rather a master of the craft, but Monk's compositions come with a heavy lot of baggage anyway...

In a Thelonius Monk bio the author said that at some point Bud Powell got beat down by several NY cops (in his youth). I also read that later in life he took antischizophrenic meds while living in Paris. His wife (girlfriend) kept them + dispensed them. I don't know specifically what it was like thorazine or lithium. Whatever though it would affect yr LOC.

@bongoloid77 Art Tatum was blackjacked in about 1930 by a mugger in Toledo. It ruined a surgery he had to partially correct his vision.
