This adorable large tree shrew in the Zoo's Small Mammal House comes closer and closer near the end of the video.

Late on Wednesday afternoons in November, when there are very few visitors in the Small Mammal House, the animals seem much more curious and more interested in looking at the visitors than they do during the busy seasons.

  • Cute. What's the scientific name?

  • @cre8ivmind Tupaia tana, which is actually a cute name for it. Better than "shrew", I think!

  • Have you gone to any other zoo other than your home zooin Philly? I gone to the Puebelo, zoo, Chyanne, mountain, Rio Grande Zoo, Sandeigo Zoo, and the Henry Doorly Zoo.

  • I was two weeks old when I visited a zoo the first time (My father loved zoos, too.)

We moved a lot, and traveled a lot as I was growing up, and always visited nearby zoos at least twice a month, and all zoos we passed while traveling.

I visited many zoos with my children as they were growing up, too.

So the list of zoos I have visited is too long to actually even remember! They were all U.S. zoos, though.

  • That is cool have any favorite anials you like other than the tree shrew? Is there one you do not like why?

  • All of the animals in the Zoo are my favorites for one reason or another. But my special favorites at this time are the curassow (in the McNeil Avian Center), the alligator snapping turtle (in the Reptile and Amphibian House), and the dwarf caiman (in Carnivore Kingdom).

I also especially like the okapi, the lions, and the toucanets.

And no, there are no animals at the Zoo I don't like. They are all wonderful, and one of the things I like best is that they all seem happy to live there.

  • I like okapis In fact one of my aol screen names is okapi okapi123 on aol. I like capybaras, tapirs, cassowary too. But I like aninals prety much. centipedes creeps me out though.

  • I work near the Zoo, and live less than half an hour away (by car).

So I usually visit the Zoo twice a week - one weekday afternoon, and one weekend day.

I also visit all the Philadelphia museums and other nearby zoos at least once or twice a year.

  • So where are you and how ofen do you go to the zoo. I forgot I can walk there. Ileave my house at 12;00pm and get there at 12'45. Do you also go to the aquairum, or butterfly pavillion, or any other animal related place?
