Bayern Munich have completed the signing of Real Madrid winger Arjen Robben for a fee believed to be in the region of £22 million. Robben, one of several Dutch players being sold by the Spanish giants, has been awarded the number 10 shirt - last worn at Bayern by his compatriot Roy Makaay - after he passed a medical and signed a four-year contract in Munich. Bayern general manager Uli Hoeneß said: "Our intention is to have Robben play on the right and Ribéry on the left, making our team even more attractive."The 25-year-old was surplus to requirements at the Bernabéu following the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo and Real have therefore opted to cash in on the former Chelsea star.

Arjen Robben was all but chased out of the Santiago Bernabeu this summer to make space - and funds - for the likes of Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo.

But his arrival at Bayern Munich, for all the ignominy of the Madrid departure, has gone swimmingly well, culminating in a two-goal substitute appearance against Wolfsburg at the weekend.

Arjen Robben scores twice in debut as Bayern routs Wolfsburg 3-0

FRANKFURT — Arjen Robben scored two goals on his debut for Bayern Munich in a 3-0 victory over defending Bundesliga champion Wolfsburg on Saturday.

One day after arriving from Real Madrid and signing a four-year contract, the Dutch winger came on at the start of the second half and scored 23 minutes later in a match dominated by Bayern.

He added a second in the 80th as Wolfsburg fell to its second straight defeat and Bayern earned its first victory of the season.

"I couldn't wish for a better start," Robben said. "It's important for Franck (Ribery) and me to have freedom of movement, it makes it much more difficult for the defenders."

  • I never much liked german bundesliga football but as a dutchman I see dutch players dominate more and more this league (Robben, Elia, van Bommel, Van Nistelrooy) It's good to see us bonding more and more the dutch and the germans are really one and the same. Good to see we are getting together.
