  • Hi alteredcontrast,

Your comment was my first smile of the day. I'm glad you enjoyed the lectures. Any of his paperbacks are small and readable, but besides The Wisdom of Insecurity, I also like This Is It.

  • Hi deepblue! Thanks for your question. Evolution to me also means spiritual evolution - reaching beyond our conditioned habits, reaching toward communion, and in general, lifting ourselves. As far as what is meant by communion, that's where different teachings and religions come in to answer the question. But no matter how it is answered, eastern teachings encourage us in this pursuit, with insights into selflessness (required for communion of any sort, whether by the name of god, or oneness).

  • thanks so much for your sweet comment! DQ

  • Your videos always bring a smile to my face. Have you read the books of Robert Anton Wilson? Im guessing you have.

  • :) indeed

  • I've had a really good experience with two books by Steve Hagen:

    Buddhism Plain and Simple

Buddhism Is Not What You Think

The opposite of living in the now is living in your imagination. But enlightenment does not eradicate the imagination! Enlightenment gives you the freedom to notice, "Oh, there goes my mind doing what minds do. Okay. I'll come back to the present now."

  • What an overlooked bundle of beauty & truth! I'm keeping this video to myself =)

  • Hi Donna! Just wanted to let you know that I have thoroughly enjoyed the few lectures of yours I've seen so far. Thanks for posting them and for being such an interesting person to listen to : )

Just wondering -- do you recommend Alan Watt's "Wisdom of Insecurity" for someone who is still new to learning about Buddhist/Daoist philosophy? In particular, I would really like to delve more into the whole principle of "living in the now." Would you say this is the book for that?
