PART 1 OF 3. A few laps with driver Hal Prewitt in a BMW 330D for Marcos Racing during the 2010 24 Hours of Nurburgring while running P1 in the D1T class (2 liter Diesels) and one of 200 cars in the race. About 25,378 or 15.7 miles long and 170 turns (mostly blind) this event is run on the Grand Prix and Nordschleife tracks. Nurburgring, known as "The Ring" and nicknamed The Green Hell by Jackie Stewart, it is widely considered the toughest, most dangerous and most demanding purpose-built racing circuit in the world.

  • 6 speed box and no auto rev. Driver does the work.

  • Also in certain turns we have understeer. Trail braking helps to solve this problem by shifting weight to the front wheels. You may notice drivers may tap the brakes or lift on the power on some turns for the same reason.

  • Not sure which turn you are asking about. I do trail brake when conditions allow as this is the quickest way thru some corners. Trail braking places more pressure on front tires which provides better turning and oversteerif desired.

  • The objective to place them to provide maximum control. And that's by being 180 deg apart. Helps avoid crossing your arms in sharp turns.

  • Nice driving. Maybe a little too slow pace? Seems like the car can handle harder driving. But then again this is 24h endurance, the point is to finish not to push hard to 1st place and then crash...

  • what gear box is he using? auto rev match?

  • im gonna do a 24 hr race round nurburgring too...but on GT5! :P

  • Can I ask you Hal why you are still on the brakes when you enter a corner? I thought the best way was to back off the power, brake before the corner, turn in and then gradually on the power again.

  • What a bad handposition on the steeringwheel...

  • Safe driving. Nice.
