This week Art looks at reports from IRGC Commander Mohammad Jafari about Iran's readiness to meet US threats, Jafari's claims of progress about developing the Pars oil field, and a dispute between the IRGC and President Ahmadi-Nejad on smuggling. Iran extends a natural gas pipeline to Pakistan, and Le Monde reports that Iran is supporting Libya's Ghaddafi with weapons. Saudi and UAE give aid to Egypt to limit Iran's regional influence. Problems for the UAE in exporting to Iran, and the International Atomic Energy Agency remains skeptical about progress with Iran. In Iran, a rush to invest money in gold or currencies more stable than the Rial, and the growing closeness between Iraqi PM Al-Maliki's Shiite-dominate government and Iran. This week, my guest once again is Dr. Olli Heinonen, formerly head of the International Atomic Energy Agency's Department of Safeguards, now a senior fellow at Harvard's Belfer Center, discussing how Iran's nuclear program seems to have regularly concealed things from IAEA inspectors for a long time, and how negotiations over Iran's nuclear program have taken a turn for the worse since President Ahmadi-Nejad got into office.
