Just a simple sped-up video to show the one of the locks sections rising to enter Lake Washington.
The amount of water coming in was enormous, when they opened the lock doors, there was still about a foot left for the water to rise, and this section is 35 feet deep when full up so that equates to alot of water.
I asked one of the lock workers why this happens, he says its hard to completely equalize the water levels because of the difference in pressure.
The levels are kept higher so that water flows from the lakeside towards the bay. This keeps the salt water from the bay flowing inwards. I learnt this last week when I saw the lock on a visit. Fascinating ~
