@JDW15217 Yes, sometimes the valsalva maneuver works and it used to for me but not always. The betablockers don't work for me anymore. Mine usually last for over an hour and I am thinking of having the ablation done. My heart beats way up to 200bpm and over sometimes. It feels like I've been running a marathon and the last time this happened I had a difficult time getting fully rested afterward. It would help to know what to do to prevent this.
@mjg1970: Of course you can STOP PSVTs with vagal maneuvers - I've never said it will HEAL them but it may be able to convert a (P)SVT into Sinus Rhythm again! :-D Why the heck do you write BETABLOCKERS are contraindicated for "reentry"? I've been taking them for 16 years to prevent my PSVTs! ;-) For the AVNRT there ARE 2 pathways INSIDE the AV-node (Dual-AV-Node) and not it like the WPW. ;-)
@Sterndi1 Please don't give advice everything you said was incorrect!! it is a Vagal maneuver for the vagus nerve and WILL NOT STOP a reentry problem. It will stop a SVT for a VERY short time. contraindication in reentry is beta blockers. the reentry is not through the AV node and if you ablate that they you have only the reentry pathway which is not built for it and has no place to pause the signal and WILL move the ventricles at the Atria's intrinisic rate. There is so much more I could add!!!
I had this stupid shit once really seriously when i was in High School, I just got out of gym and was sitting in my car and my heart kept beating fast and it kept beating fast for like almost an hour, so i went to my doctor and he had to call the ambulance, they gave me a shot of some meds that IMMEDIATELY slowed it down and took me to the hospital, there they determined i had this crap by doing an EKG and the doc said its not an uncommon thing and i shouldnt really worry about it.
I just got diagnosed with PSVT about 4 months ago. I woke up from a deep sleep. My heart was way past 120BPM's, I'm 34 so I SWORE I was having a heart attack. The Vagus maneuvers does stop it. So far meds haven't helped and they are still trying to rule out certain that its not VT. It's absolutely a terrifying experience as I haven't gotten "used" to this yet.
i'm 13 and i've had ir for about two years...i hate it because when it gets bad enough, i need to tell somone just so they can keep an eye on me in case i faint or something...and all teachers and adults take it one of two ways when i tell them:
1.they FLIP OUT and like wanna call 911
or
2. they don't believe.
ugh...can't they just chill out and make sure nothing hapens, i'll be fine! O.o
You can stop those SVTs with Vagus maneuvers UNLESS they're a Sinus Rhythm. ;-) PSVT never have Sinus Rhythm! It's an electric reentry mechanism in the AV-node region or the AV-node itself. You may heal it by Catheter Ablation and alternatively may prevent or/and discontinue it with Betablockers as long as you don't have a basic low blood pressure - also mind their other side effects. ;-)
These are scary but mostly harmless in otherwise healthy people. If you have them, learn to do the valsalva maneuver. That can often stop the SVT without need for medical intervention.
im 13 and its been a year i have it, some people say it happends anytime, like if your siting down. but me it only happends at sport... the best way to prevent it eat PASTA, lol im not kiding. i eat hambergers im screwed,it happends. i eat spagetti and it neveer hapends
I have had these types of attacks since I was 14. They can do a procedure called cardiac ablation. They just burn the tissue where the extra impulses are coming from in your heart and it fixes it. If they can't, you can take beta blockers or have an internal defibulator put in your chest. It shocks you when it senses an attack coming on and puts your heart back into normal rhythm. I am having my ablation July 8th. 98% successful I believe.
