(May 20)[Notes:ANCHOR VOICE] [Notes:Dateline: New York][Notes:File vid Patterson] New York Governor David Paterson has undergone an emergency procedure for glaucoma.That's hours after admitting himself to a hospital with a severe headache.Paterson is legally blind.The governor's office says he was diagnosed with acute glaucoma in his left eye... and had a routine, outpatient laser procedure to relieve pressure on that eye.Doctors say Paterson has already left the hospital .... but will have another procedure in a few days to prevent glaucoma in his right eye.They say neither procedure will have any long-term impact on the governor's overall health. Paterson lost sight in his left eye ... and much of the sight in his right eye after an infection as an infant. The 54-year-old can see shapes and usually recognizes people as they approach.But he can read for only a few minutes at a time ... with the text held close to his face.The Democrat was sworn in on March 17 ... days after former Governor Eliot Spitzer resigned amid a prostitution scandal.
