One of the things that is scary about Stefano is how fast he can do a 180. Right now he is being patient with Marlena, but it would only be a matter of time before he realized that she would never return his feelings, and if that ever happened, it's scary to think what he would've done to her. He has the type of mentality where if he can't have her, no one can, and he can be one ruthless S.O.B when provoked. Look what he did to Rachel.
