  • The bill does not allow the bio-parents to keep their names from the adopted children which kind of goes counter to the reason for sealed adoptions. I understand that you would like to know your bio family and I can agree that the state should remove all incentives and support of adoptions and promote family placement.

  • From what I can see of the bills in question I think that he may have thought that the bio-parents identity would be compromised when they did not want their identities known if the bill passed. The language of the bill should have allowed for redaction of the parents name unless consent is given so that birth certificates could be provided to adopted children.

  • What about the rights of tax-paying, law-abiding adult adoptees? This jerk believes they are less than human, worthy of state-sponsored discrimination. He has NO place in a democratic society.

  • Like I said before, what rights are you looking for? State Rep Hoogendyk has been an advocate for equal parenting rights and parental rights.

  • I know who my bio-parents were and speak with my mother's widower weekly. I am still not permitted the same rights as other persons.

  • Please prove me wrong and provide a rational answer as to why Rep. Hoogendyk believes adopted persons dont deserve the same rights as other law-abiding adults in Michigan.

  • I can only speculate as to the reason behind Rep. Hoogendyks choice but I expect it is either that he wishes to hide from the product of an extra-marital affair or that he is well-funded by brokers in the infant adoption industry such as Bethany Services.

  • Rep. Hoogendyk voted against removing this discrimination, choosing instead to have adopted adults, as a class, treated as separate and not equal to the general public.

This is pure, state-sponsored discrimination and is shameful and reprehensible, if not downright illegal.

  • On March 5, 2008, HB4896 was laid before the Committee on Families and Childrens Services, of which Rep. Hoogendyk is a member. This bill would have awarded adult adopted persons the same rights as other law-abiding adults by allowing them to possess a copy of their own birth certificate, currently prohibited for those adoptees born between 1945 and 1982.
