Background: The J'naii are a race of beings who do not have genders. Although they are genderless, some are born with the desire to be male or female. The J'naii who follow these desires are named outcasts and criminals, and even sick, and are put through treatment to "fix" or "cure" them.

In this scene, Soren goes through a tribunal because she was found to have female urges. Soren gives a speech about her actions, and her feelings. I feel this is an important scene for everything that's going on in society today, especially with the question of gay marriage. In fact, while homosexuality isn't directly mentioned in the episode, it's what the writers and producers were aiming at.
