Gene Screen BC 2011 Participant.
This is the story of Leroy, a young southern boy diagnosed with Leber Congenital Amaurosis- a genetic defect affecting the retina of his eyes. As a result, his vision progressively declines as he ages. The audience is shown how difficult his life is becoming with worsening eyesight and is able to observe what happens once he decides to enroll in a clinical trial using gene therapy to improve his condition. By following the story of Leroy, the audience is left with a greater understanding of the history and science behind gene therapy, why this works and how the technique is currently employed. Peppered with hilarity, infused with in-depth scientific knowledge, and leaving one with an overall heart-warming feel, this film should be a pleasure to watch for all.
