Meet Moto Moto (translation = "Hot!, Hot!")

Recording artist will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas stepped into the role of Moto Moto—as it turns out, the frontman and producer of the multi-platinum group was a huge fan of the first film.
will.i.am comments, Madagascar is one of our favorite movies. I think Ive seen it, like, 500 times. We were in Johannesburg, in the airport, and our tour manager says, Cmon, guys, we gotta move it, move it! Like the crew, everybody, we use move it, move it all the time. Its like our whole familys favorite movie by far.
And once will got the part, it was only a matter of time before some music followed. When his character rises out of the water and first glimpses Gloria, will.i.am thought it would be fun to rhyme something—and someone in the recording session suggested that this special first moment should feature a song.
will.i.am recalls, I thought, Yeah, a song would be coolthat would be awesome. So I started with rhythm, like a whole bunch of other hippos sighing, and some hitting her chest, getting a beat. Other animals could clap, right? Maybe monkeys knocking their heads. You have a whole ensemble of percussion using their anatomy. Moto Moto would be conducting his jungle, if you will, as the band as hes confessing his love for Gloria. I like them big, I like them plumpy. My name is Moto Moto, you say it double. Say my name girl, Moto Moto. Say it again, Moto Moto!
Clearly feeling the groove, will.i.am then laid down each track separately and extemporaneously—the percussion, the sighs, the vocals. The entire song was recorded in around 30 minutesall on the fly.
For the entire cast of Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, working on the film was a wonderful opportunity to be able to combine a great message with a lot of great comedy. Jada Pinkett Smith closes, It is fun to react to seeing yourself animated in some way—it gives you an opportunity to step outside of realityto be in this fantasy world and play a character that is completely outside of yourself. It takes you to a whole other space. And it allows you to really stretch your wings and do things that you may not do ordinarily. So I find to have that kind of creative freedom is just a breath of fresh air. And lets be honest, doing this kind of job on this kind of film is a heck of a lot of fun!
