Monkstown Mossley Pipe Band play a medley at the Ulster Pipe Band Championships in Armagh, 1994. This was a very innovative and creative pipe band for its day, and the drum corps, under Gavin Bailie, are truly hot stuff.
Winston pollock (pipe major there) is my solo teacher and got me playing the bagpipes :) that man is such an inspiration and has changed my life :) -3
back then they didnt tune pipes the same way, these days they're way higher... they're not so much out of tune, it's that it sounds different than what we're used to
This band is not particularly well tuned. Check out some of the recent videos of Field Marshal Montgomery, Simon Fraser University, and Boghall and Bathgate.
In response to ToddSc: There's plenty of wobbling tone up to and sometimes including Grade 2 bands. It's all about blowing consistency, and you really don't get it until you hit grade 2.
Ohhh i just thought u meant he wrote the drum scores in the band that they played and was makeing a big dead out of it.. my bad. And naww im just a grade 3 soloist playing in a grade 3 band. =P
well, "um" i think you're missing the point here my boy. if you had read my comment properly ..when i stated Gavin penned his own music, i meant he wrote the piping music which Monkstown used to play, not just the drum scores. this man was and is far superior than any other drum sargeant i've ever known in these terms. i didnt say all of them dont write music, i said most of them dont. im sorry, maybe you are an amazing drum sargeant in a grade 1 champ winning band ...but i doubt it!

Very nicely played for a grade 2 band playing up.

thats quite the opposite.. most lead drmmers write their own scores for their band, in evry grade.
