Aha! my favourite version! I haven't been able to find this one, it's either a different version or lousy quality.

Umm, I remember when this first came out. I was 7 years old. Went straight up the Top 40 chart. Jeepers!

Everyone's got alot on thier mind these days, I would imagine. If you listen to the lyrics and watch the movie, (I wonder if I have to point this out), you'll plainly see that Pops was invisioning Herc coming to help me raise Apollo.

It was a hoot when The Coasters would appear on the Muscular Dystrophy telethon in the 80's and early 90's performing this song and Jerry Lewis would always join them tap dancing & flailing his arms like crazy while singing "YAKETY YAK!! YAKETY YAK!!!" in his nutty professor voice....

Great old song! And it's the original recording! Buttttttt!!! The record is quite worn and like a lot of records, it's recorded off speed. I'm sure you used a good table that runs at exactly 45RPM, but a lot of records are hopelessly recorded off speed for one reason or another.

@texray1947 This was actually played from The Coasters Greatest Hits LP album, not the 45 as shown in the video. The pitch sounds correct to me. A lot of radio stations speed up their music slightly, so if that's what you're comparing it to, then this will sound a little slower.

Oh - you poor sod. You got the Juke Box "version"...! & No - sorry the ORIGINAL COMMERCIAL was released in BOTH Stereo & Monaural versions... PLUS (the one you got) ... is a 45rpm "centre" KNOCK_OUT twin "spindle" version ... which were ALWAYS designed to be "played" on monaural
QUIX4U 1 year ago
@QUIX4U No, American 45s always use the large center hole regardless if they are stereo or mono, or if they are a jukebox or commercial release.
