German Tango: Ich küsse Ihre Hand, Madame - Alfred Vogel,1928

Ich küsse Ihre Hand, Madame (Erwin /Rotter) - Alfred Vogel mit Orchester, Beka 1928 (Germany)

NOTE: It's one of rare German renditions of that wonderful tango (known also under English title: I Kiss Your Little Hand, Madame). Alfred Vogel was a typical Weimar era German "crooner" (I put it into quotes, as European "crooners" of that era - on contrary to American seductive and warm baritones - usually had some operatic-tenor note in their voices) who sung solo and as refrain vocalist with many Weimar Republic dance bands. The accompanying band sounds to my ear as Otto Dobrin\dt's "Dobbri-Saxophone Orchestra" (Beka house band in the turn of 1920/30s). Unfortunately, I could not get rid of some residual surface noise (like someone was roller-skating right by the door of recording studio). @dzheger Unfortunately, I don't have the Polish version of it but I remember the lyrics by heart: O nieznajoma i piękna pani / wiesz dobrze jaką mam sympatię dla niej. Ślesz mi uśmieszek lecz cóż mi z tego/ gdy cały dzień przy sobie masz innego... etc, etc. Oh Lady, a beautiful stranger, you feel my liking for you/ So you're sending me a secret smile, yet what good I have from it /if all day long another man sticks to your side

All thjese guys: Leo Monosson, Alfred Vogel, Egen, Strauss, Franz Baumann... they were simply MAGNIFICENT! The warmth in their voices, and their distinguished, sophisticated interpretations... Ich kusse IHRE hand, monsieur, all the way from faraway D.C. Why do old familiar songs sound better in foreign languages? Maybe because we poets are less likely to hear the banality of much of the original lyrics?
