@BigHrdB I have only just seen your post but I hope you are doing well. although I do not know you, I feel your pain when it comes to getting older. Today is my 61st birthday and I have come to know how lucky I am to be alive. Sure, there are many sad and troubling aspects of this life but I love very day and look forward to what is to come. This is a haunting song and the lyrics make me feel good that while we don't know the mind of God, he gave the gift of his son. Merry Christmas.

@PhillyRoja That's cool. I celebrate Christmas just for the festivities and the childhood memories and traditions I have ... like decorating etc. However, I celebrate Jesus every day of my life :)

I listened to many versions of this song and i think Streisand sings it with more feeling and gentleness than anyone.

@natlips Barbara told in so many interviews along her career that she felts as Christian as Jewish. Her words :
"How can someone not to care for all those beatifull songs, coirls, decoration, especial food. I love Christmas
time, and I'm not less jewish because of that".
I repeat, I heard She saying that on an interview, long ago, can't remember the year, many years ago.

Merriest of Christmases and Happiest of New Year 2010 to everyone.....THIS version takes me to a place in my memory of GREAT introspection, wonder, beauty, reverance, and unfortunately, sadness, I have to admit. No wonder it's such an exquisitely beautiful but sadly haunting song...I had no idea it was written during the Depression. I'll tell ya', it seems to get harder & harder to keep my spirits up as I get older, when I wake up every day & look at REALITY....anyone in agreement?
