@safefortheozone Short version, it is a song about the bonds that hold people together, the war being one. I knew back then that was what he meant. That "freak flag" had a lot of meanings. One of them, at least for me and the people I knew, was the war. Turns out hair has nothing to do with how we feel about things, and the familial bond that causes tend to create. We were all so much younger then, and we didn't understand how little appearance really matters.

Accident, luck, skill, whatever..... A very powerful piece you have that captures a moment in time. We have a new crew now so I'm thinking boring but safe and miserable is in my future.

It's just about a hippie in the 60s who almost cut his hair. He didn't because he feels he owes it someone. It's a love song.

@safefortheozone -if you think that your either too young or were asleep at the wheel in the 60's. this song (and i just saw them perform this summer) was indeed and anthem, a call to arms-think nothing less of it.

I remember the song from the first time around. I cut my hair decades ago, but this song hasn't lost its power. Listening to it now, in the present atmosphere of political paranoia I even feel a bit nervous.

Thanks Big, I really don't believe you're a loser, if that's why you call yourself that. Anyway, these are the word from a book that I read 30 yrs ago. Spread these words to all you know and maybe it will be like the 100 money theory. Look it up on the internet. Be well and know you are loved
Have you ever thought that maybe this is just a song about cutting hair and not some sort of anti-war song?

@safefortheozone CSN&Y did a more pointed song about Kent State called "Ohio". I really didn't like it as much as this one. I recorded the tune and then I was searching for some kind of video when I came across this series of stills from Kent State. The two were really unrelated until the last second. I'm pleased and surprised by the reaction that has come from all over the world! None of my other videos have done nearly as well.

Thanks to all who ever protested against war, and for peace and freedom. Thank you to all who make music, and to all who share it. You make a better world, much more than you think. To the others: please let's abandon fear, fear makes us mean.
