Doomsday Vault Protects World's Seeds on "60 Minutes"

Svalbard Global Seed Vault opened its doors on February 26, 2008 to the world.

This 'Doomsday Vault' is part of an effort to protect the planet's diminishing biodiversity.

The facility was dug deep into the frozen rock of an Arctic mountain on Spitsbergen, one of 3 Arpichelago Islands in Norway. Any seeds stored here will be secure for centuries, or longer.

As well as protecting against the loss of multicultural diversity, the vault is going to provide the salvation for restarting agricultural production at the regional or global level in the wake of a natural or man-made disaster.

Contingencies for climate change have been worked into the plan. Even in the worst-case scenarios of global warming, the vault rooms will remain naturally frozen for up to 200 years.

Let's hope all those seeds are non hybrid, unlike that franken food Monsanto's poisoning us and the earth with, that lines the isles of our grocery stores these days. Non GMO's only in the vault boys, otherwise you'll plant em one year and then the next year you'll die from starvation because there genetically modified for a single growing season of "food substitute"

@wolfsfire68 unfortunatly research dictates that both Monsanto, Dupont/pioneer seeds, AND syngenta (sp?) are the biggest financial investors of this project (these 3 companies effectively hold the majority commercial seed market), and because of which get special perks and access to the bank. Ultimately what seems great to the public is actually a grab for control for GMO's companies to further ensure their monopoly in the future. Disgusting isnt it?

Actually it's a well known fact that this vault exists.

However they use seeds that are not GM because they are not strong enough to resist climate change.

We all need to do our homework :)
