Bryan Callen talks about studying with Milton Katselas and the the Beverly Hills Playhouse. Bryan Callen says that the most important thing that the Beverly Hills Playhouse and Milton Katselas teaches is that attitude monitors talent. Your attitude is what makes a huge difference. He says that you have to learn how to continue to inspire yourself and to fight the cynicism—that's what the Playhouse provides. The bar for artists set at the Playhouse is very high and that's a reflection of Milton Katselas' values. Bryan notes that Milton has worked with some of the best actors, like George C Scott and Bette Davis. When you get up on stage for Milton, he has seen the best, so the bar is set so high. Bryan likes that Milton creates an atmosphere that requires the actor to surprise, scare, and shock himself. That's what's so exciting about studying at the Playhouse. Bryan is forty and has been in class for over ten years. He stays in class because it keeps reminding him of the work he still has to do. Bryan says that if you want to be a great actor or artist, it's relentless and there are no days off. There's no end point. He came to the playhouse and he learned how to act. He learned how to get to a point where no matter who he was acting with, he could hold his own.

This is one of the most revealing statements I've ever heard about what it means to act. Callen is amazingly insightful. He's given me a new and clear standard by which to judge performances. Callen definitely deserves larger, more varied jobs to showcase his talent.
