Teaser for a video I was going to make for the Georgia Parks and Recreation Department. It was to be shown at the Chickamauga Battlefield welcome center, but the funding fell through. Oh well! Here's a somewhat completed (except for the text at the end) version...

  • @haynes1776 Longstreet, like all the other generals under Bragg, sought his removal from command. Longstreet's corps occupied Lookout Mountain for a while, then upon Jefferson Davis's suggestion, Bragg sent him to recapture Knoxville from the Federals. In a classic reversal of fortune from the battle of Fredricksburg, Longstreet sent his men to be mown down against Union troops behind earthworks that were commanded by Burnside. He was back in Virginia in time for the Wilderness - was wounded

  • It was Gen Thomas's stand at snograss hill that prevented a union route. The Rock of Chickamauga as he was called.

  • I heard that Longstreet's corps, Army of Northern Virginia, were sent west to reinforce Bragg at Chickamauga creek. How long were they there before moving back east?

  • the fact that crack me up about this battle is that Gen Braxton Bragg refused to believe that he won a victory.

  • The Union had unskilled generals and men.. the Confederates had good skilled generals and pretty decent trained men.. doing a report on chickamauga right now ha :)

  • Isnt this the battle with the one brigade with quick firing rifiles?

  • Nicely done. I visited the Welcome Center last week (I live local) with my nephew and they had a 23 minute "movie" playing in the theater on a rotating basis. the same one they used to show on a TV in the artifacts room. While an O.K. film, it's a little corny for my tastes. This one seems much more exciting. You might want to contact them again and see if you can get some more funding to complete the project. Looks like a lot of work went in to just this 2.5 minute intro.

  • Awesome vid! I visited Chickamauga last year with my parents along with many of the Civil War sites of Tennessee. It was cool. Thanks for including "The Rock of Chickamauga" Gen. George H. Thomas.

  • Too bad you didn't get the funding to produce your video: the battle itself, as well as the Tullahoma Campaign leading up from Stones River/Murfreesboro to Chickamauga itself, is a fascinating part of the history of that war. Too often, all kids are taught about in school is Lee & Meade at Gettysburg (or maybe, Grant & Pemberton at Vicksburg)- but there was a lot more going on in that summer of '63. Rosecran's defeat shows the folly of overconfidence.
