Actually, the theremin was invented in 1919 by León Theremin in the times of civil russian war, when it was shown to Lenin he was so impressed he started to take lessons himself, he also sent trained thereminists to the soviet union and all around the world to make itself known. Although back then it was called a termenvox or aetherphone, the term theremin derived from the tem termenvox (as well as its inventor's last name)
Actually it wasn't, I don't remember what is. But it was built back sometime in the 1700's, even though, it was mostly clicks and bloops, it was still considered a instrument. Look it up :). I thought the same thing until I did some research.
It can also be heard in the song "Good Vibrations" by The Beach Boys, and the soundtracks of (the original version of) "The Day the Earth Stood Still", "The Lost Weekend", "The Thing From Another World" and "Ed Wood". (The soundtrack for "Forbidden Planet" used oscillator circuits and a ring modulator, not a theremin.)
Anyone who is interested in this instrument should watch the documentary "Theremin", which is about the man behind the invention. The film's tagline; "The music he made was strange. His life was even stranger."
Thanks! It's a lovely record. 10/10 for feel good factor! Have checked out a lot of your work over days-you've been around!!! Some really great stuff. Cheers!
