I love using native wildflowers in my garden. They=re beautiful and easy to maintain and benefit wildlife. Make sure you select the right plants for your yard. some species need lots of sun, and others thrive only in shade. planting from seeds is less expensive, but the plants may take two to three years to bloom. if you want faster results, use bare root or potted plants. potted plants can be transplanted any time, but bare roots should be planted in late fall or early spring while the plant is dormant. dig the holes deeply enough to place the top of the root an inch below the surface without bending or curling the roots. Digging plants from roadsides is illegal...and the plants rarely survive. Wildflower nurseries offer your best bet for a successful wildflower patch.
