Footage of the sprint downriver race at the 2011 Glacier Breaker. The sprint race course is usually about 500 to 700 meters (around two football fields). This year's race was focused on the area around Patton's Run, and the video here is a compilation of the competitors' runs at this rapid. In these clips you can see the "race" line the competitors are trying to hit which maximizes the speed gained from the fast moving water and avoids any momentum-sapping water features. Sunday's classic downriver race course is much longer than the sprint, (up to nine miles long).
