Military Sealift Command (MSC) is the ocean transportation provider for the Department of Defense with the responsibility of providing strategic sealift and ocean transportation for all military forces overseas. MSC CIVMARs replenish Navy ships at sea with the food, fuel, ammunition and other goods to keep them at peak readiness.     Many of the requirements are position specific; however there are three universal requirements you should know about:

    1) a US Passport

    2) a MMD (Merchant Mariners Document)

    3) a TWIC card (TWIC means Transportation Workers Identification Credential).

    The endorsement on the back of your MMD has a lot to say about the type of position youll qualify for with MSC check the Now Hiring page on to find the official Maritime Job Opportunity Announcement youll need.

  • @melbon1528 If you want an officer's position I would recommend one of the six State Maritime Academies or the USMMA

  • @sealiftcommand what is the first step to do ??get the TWIC or MMD??. what i need to get TWIC . and what i need to get MMD??Can you please tell me step by step. im interested to join this job. i live in Los Angeles

  • @sealiftcommand Greetings, once called for employment, we go to norfolk, va. Then 2 months training in Conneticut. Do we get paid while in training? Also, I live on the NW coast, perfer to be deployed out of Portland/Seattle. Are there MSC ships in my local area? thanks
