Security Guard Fight from Combat Baguazhang
This scene filmed in 1994 was done in real time the fight is unrehearsed and was used in the Video series Nine Dragon Baguazhang for Street Combat series produced by Inside Kung Fu Magazing Video division. To make it more realistic Dr. Painter was not aware of what the attackers would do, he just had to react to their actions. In a real combative situation it is impossible to appear as classical Wushu performers do in tournament display.

There are six DVDs in this series each teaching a different level of Jiulong Baguazhang from hand to hand combat using, Jiulong Baguazhang throws, locks, strikes and kicks against single and multiple opponents. For information on this timeless series of instructional videos contact us at Thegompa@aol.com. Each DVD opens with realistic fight scenes and then moves into the film studio to explain in detail how to train and apply the basic concepts of Baguazhang from the Jiulong system.

Dr. Painter is a Captain in the American Rangers Martial Law Enforcement Training Institute and a police academy commander of special weapons and tactics at two Ohio police training academies. His PKC program for law enforcement has been taught to over 30,000 officers in the United States.

  • I do respect Mr. Painter's internal skill, I just have one question: Is Bagua really about turning one's back to the opponent? I see him doing it 3 or 4 times here -which is more than I would have preferred.. And while it's much harder to hit a spinning fighter than it looks, there is always an increased danger when turning one's back, as there's at least a split second when you're not in complete control of the situation -no matter your sensitivity etc. -Or am I missing something here?

  • @piaten Thanks for the comments. The first turn is an arm bar release. The second spin to stop a kick and build momentum for palm slap, third to get behind the guy to throw him into the other one. The attempt failed so he got pushed. In CQB with more than one you cannot think about strategy you move flow and change with what you are given. I did not plan this it just came out the way you see it. Also for some reason the fight clip is a great deal slower on You Tube than the original.

  • gay lol all he did was spin in a bunch of circles, turned me off completly I was going to take classes and now im just going to stick with karate.

  • @DrinkUpJohny I think you are right that you should stay with Karate as you are really not mature enough in martial arts to see what is going on in this scene. Not everyone takes a big wide stance and dukes it out with combatants. There are more things in Heaven and Earth than are dreampt of in your philosophy my young friend.

  • This is old school bagua. From what I understand It was invented by a bodyguard.

  • @8stepsifu Yes, this is one of the first unrehearsed takes of the scene from the video series. We did very little rehearsal and wanted to make it more reals so each take is a bit different. Thanks for your comments.

  • This is a very good video and I do not understand why anyone would criticize this guard for spinning since he was safe at all times and his assailants were not. Even in linear situations 1 on 1 you will see a Ba Gua fighter move like this: he will end up behind his opponent or at an angle with the opponent open to him and he will be safe. Ba Gua's effectiveness is well demonstrated in this vid.

  • @DrinkUpJohny You have totally missed the point of both martial arts and what he was doing. Nobody was injured, he wasn't touched, and he was in control of both men. The fight ended before it began. To put it a way you might comprehend... REAL martial artists learn the Miyagi way, YOU want the Kobra Kai way. It sounds like you want some "Mixed Martial Arts" combat. That is lame to me...

  • Very cool! But the two guys look like pedophiles...Big congratz to the Guard for teaching them a lesson.

  • To me it seems like the power is always coming from the turn.

  • @8stepsifu It was most famously used by palace guards actually. Bajiquan is what is often referred to as the "bodyguard" martial art. I know some baji, it's nasty stuff. It incorporates some circular footwork in yingmen sanbugu, but favors smaller defensive angles like xingyi and very hard hitting percussive techniques. Bajiquan is famous for its explosive, compact body and elbow strikes used in the pocket after clinching or trapping and opening guard.

  • bad ass!
