@AngryWomble: Heh. I allow some myself as I remember Dr. (Sir) Clarkes dictum about science and magic, but the something for nothing "psychic" powers (from the old "we only use 10% of our brains", which really meant "we're so ignorant of what any part of the brain does we'll call the parts we don't see doing anything with our bone rattle and bean filled gourd equipment 'unused'") to the "stupid aliens" theme of recent years are what put me off my feed.
Oh yes, films and tv getting the science all gnarled up is to be expected to an extent. And so long as theres some loose plausability to it in the most part i don't mind. It's when they've got that creative that they're so FAR off the ap that they've gone past the dragons that i start to get that vein popping out issue......
@AngryWomble: There's too much bad science on TV and in movies to get too worked up about it. People exploding in a vacuum instead of suffocating to death... or maybe bleeding from the ears due to explosive decompression. Disgintigrators of ANY kind (I'm looking at you, ST) with no left over gunk or steam. Creatures/Monsters/Heroes that get LARGER when they PowerUp or GetMad. Even when a movie *TRIES*, like the great starship in Avatar, they goover up the science elsewhere... I could go on :P
The film as a whole disgusts me....although i'm contemplating some hard core masochism for the delight of youtube. My father bought a copy of the film and every so often tries to say the line to me about the neutrinos. I don't think he gets the intensity of my loathing/hated/dislike of the film.....maybe if i burnt his copy he might......
@AngryWomble: You're right. To refer to them as "mutated" implies they have the freedom to change to any state at all and they don't. They can only change to specific states under specific conditions, even if that state is one never seen before. Because all states they can assume are pretty well known, a bit of hyperbole suggests the word "mutation" to express how unlikely a previously unknown state like this would be.
This is sort of an inversion of the plot bunny used in the recent movie, 2012, where solar neutrinos were somehow all adopting some previously unknown oscillation flavor (they have 3 and change in flight from one to the other in a manner anologous to EM radiations changing from E to M as it flies along). In 2012, they all are assuming this hitherto unknown form and HEATING the core to an unprecedented level and that's what causes catastrophic surface folding.
If you don't learn how to watch movies. You're left with chick flicks and reality tv.

@KaroKoenich
I hate this film with a passion!!! I have the Core too, thats actually been rendered into the 'not to bad' pile if o compare it to that shitfest

@RyuDarragh
Then why not refer to them as altered neutrinos and not mutated????

@KaroKoenich Ooh I was in the mood. Had a good cold at the time so this movie was perfect.
