Brief instructions on how to start mycelium for the mushrooms you want to grow at home inexpensively and easily. in this video I'll show you what to do to get mycelium running in cardboard. Mushrooms are like the flowers of mycelium. This is how to grow mycelium of mushrooms you buy at the supermarket.

  • You can put it in the ground, but it is just as likely to be mold as mycelium. And even if it is mycelium you have no idea what kind it is, so growing it out and getting it to fruit will most likely produce a non edible variety of mushroom, if it fruited at all. When a person is growing mycelium to produce mushrooms, it's critical to know what you are growing. I'm not even going to ask why you had a jar full of dead stink bugs . . . .

  • After i grow the mycelium if im doing PF Tek how do i get them in the jars? Do i put them in a syringe or just put them on the cake o.O

  • @YokoYakazumaa This method I am demonstrating is not a sterile method. PF Tek requires a sterile method. Since many types of microorganisms thrive on BRF based media, contamination risks are very high. You may be able to make a liquid mycelium syringe from mycelium harvested from the cardboard, on a glove box or clean room environment. Do a search for Liquid Culture to learn more.

  • You're not boiling the cardboard??? Does this also work for SHIITAKE mushrooms? Have you tried them on cardboard?

  • @argenjointje I have but had contamination problems. If you are going to do shitake I recommend you use a very mild bleach solution to dip the mushroom to sterilize the exterior of the mushroom. Then, in a clean area, preferably in a glove box,rip the mushroom in half vertically and cut bits out of the inside of the mushroom. I have used this method, in a glove box, to start shitake mycelium on sterile dowels (in jars), and on grain. I hope to start videoing more soon.

  • ps: my goal is to grow them indoor

  • @BunnyCaramel I do almost all my growing indoors. I hope to obtain a camera soon so I can do some follow up videos, as I have advanced far beyond where the original goes and have learned a lot I am eager to pass on.

  • @picaticatara depends on where you live, growing magic mushrooms is illegal in some countries, but not in others. Youtube reaches an international audience.

  • I'm have a jar which was full of sort of dead stink bugs, slowly I noticed mycelium growing or something very like mycelium. Can I apply this to plants or not?like can I plant it on soil?

  • Recently read more of the thread. Portobello works, just need to enrich cardboard with compost tea! Cool video, man, thanks. Publish more!

  • @the86thcreator I also use grain in jars, and wooden dowels in jars, all done under sterile conditions. Grain seems to be much more susceptible to contamination than cardboard or dowels, though I have experienced some contaminants in cardboard and on dowels. I usually use a blend of grain. half wheat and half rye, and 1/3 each of organic brown rice, wheat and rye. I am hoping to get a camera soon so I can do some much needed updates and follow ups.
