I agree with skysailor, as a Real glider pilot here, the wake is bumby and a bit rocky, although not damaging. You always want to follow the tow planes centerline in both directions, but slighty above the wake. At the pilots eye level, if the tow plane is straight in front of your view, your in good shape, to be off to the left or right of tow your making the tow pilot work abit harder along with being high or low. Be kind to your tow pilot! Keep it on the center line. :)
Guys... flying a glider in the tow plane's wake will NOT cause damage to a glider. In fact, one particular maneuver all student glider pilots must learn is transitioning (flying into, through, and out of) the wake. The turbulence found in the wake is not *that* bad.
it aint crap! look it up for yourself. you know that all aircraft, in fact any moving object creates air disturbance behind them (in this case, wake turbulence) the glider, as it has a huge wingspan (for lift) will feel wake turbulence more. so it stays BEHIND the tow aircraft, however, it will be towed a few feet either to one side or above/below! Look it up!
*reply to "planeboy"* - gliders often stay off to one side or above/below the tow plane to keep out of the tow planes wake. if it was following the tow exactly, the wake would be strong enough to break the rope and the glider could crash. Thats what could happen in real world at least
