Obviously, the Flood waters ran off the edge of the earth.

Golden opportunity missed! After JR's "fat Al Gore" story, somebody should have prompted potholer to say "Gore's got too much fucking carbon in him!"

That day, that same man stated that homosexuals should not be allowed to donate blood because their blood is inherently tainted and probably contaminated with HIV.

Thanks. Like I said, I was only playing devil's advocate for fun.

You're thinking of the magnetic field, something Mars and Venus only have weaker versions of. It helps deflect the solar wind. But thats not the sole factor. Proximity to the sun, gravitational pull, and atmospheric makeup all contribute to water lost to space.

No, there's something else in the upper atmosphere, it might be the ionosphere or even the magnetosphere. Venus is supposed to have lost it's oceans to this process (before it got hot), it involves the solar wind stripping off hydrogen.

Yeah, that trap is called "atmosphere." So, if the earth lost it's atmosphere for millions of years, it would loose a lot of water...and life, too!

There might not have been mountain ranges, but of course, this gets us way out the range of biblical history. The earth has some sort of trap (that's what I vaguely remember) that keeps us from loosing water to space, so it's possible that if the trap were destroyed for millions of years, we could loose a great deal of water.

The flood waters were supposed to cover the peak of the tallest mountain.
