Atahualpa By Una Ramos
Atahualpa, Atawallpa, was the last sovereign emperor of the Inka Empire, before he was captured, ransomed and murdered by Francisco Pizarro and his coalition of Spanish and Indigenous forces in 1533. After his death, the empire fragmented and was lost to colonialism, strife, slavery, and disease.
The first three images are of Atawallpa, and the last three are of his loyal general and possible half-brother, Rumiaoui, who took up the fight against the Spanish invaders in the northern lands of the empire, present day Ecuador, and became a legendary folk hero. After learning of Atawallpa's execution, Rumiaoui ordered the immense ransom of gold known today as the Treasure of the Llanganatis to be hidden in the Llanganatis Mt. range. He defended Quito to the end, and even under torture, never divulged the location of the treasure.
Enjoy.
