  • Thank you. Very informative. You were referring to a DVD. How can we get hold of a complete set?

  • @altumega Install the downloader for RealPlayer. Search youtube for "Growing Bananas full version" and you can download it. If you want the DVD, send your mailing address to snelson at hawaii.edu.

  • i live in hawaii i got 1acre of land im clearing how much bannana plants would i need to get resonalble money at the farmers market?

  • @mrdreadeye808 The price for bananas varies among farmer's markets in Hawaii. For example, in Hilo you can buy a hand of bananas for a couple of dollars. The price is doubled that at the Manoa farmer's market (Honolulu). Also, price of varieties varies -- apple bananas cost more than Cavendish. And, yields vary among locations and among varieties. Some farmers get 35,000 pounds or more/acre with Cavendish, and 20-25 K pounds/acre with apple bananas. So, money depends on the variety and market.

  • @scotnelson thanks think ill plant a hundred. do you know if popoulu bannanas are good?

  • @mrdreadeye808 Popoulu (a Hawaiian variety) taste good, but may not be the best choice for farming and for market if profit is the objective.

  • @scotnelson ok thanks for all the info

  • @Vibez727727 It may be true for your area. I suggest that you ask this question to fellow growers at the forum at bananas.org

  • I read some where that you had to "winterize" your plants in the winter, is this true if you live in central Florida?

  • @scotnelson...and it shows that you love and respect your crops. Awesome!
