Finally found the time to put another video together. After long preperations, we spend a week searching in Germany.

This was an American foxhole line, consisting of five foxholes in a V shape. At point was a heavy Browning M1917A1 position. The line was overrun by attacking SS-troops in a frontal attack during the night/early morning after several artillery barrages. The Americans retreated to the nearest village under own artillery fire with the German attackers running besides them, this caused a lot of 'friendly fire' deaths. Both sides suffered heavy casualties. During the retreat, a lot of equipment was left behind.

Edit: As of saturday August 13th 2011, the shrapnel damaged M1 helmet has been identified and contact has been made with relatives. The soldier wearing this helmet was fatally wounded by shrapnel to the head and died a day later of his injuries in a German field hospital about 15 miles from the frontlines. He was buried properly on the nearest Catholic cemetery. His grave was discovered by another American unit during the push into Germany. He now lies buried at Luxembourg American Cemetery.

For those of you who are asking me questions about where I search, where can I find helmets and guns, can you please take me with you? etc. etc. I am sorry but I only search with a select group of friends and I do NOT reveal exact locations of where I search. I have a personal interest for the story of this region. I am not doing it for just the relics.

Many thanks to rosmanczyk for the music ( see channel here http://www.youtube.com/user/rosmanczyk )

  • I wonder if you ever found some bones and remains of bodies, etc.

  • @profitaj The only remains I have ever found and recovered was in an official dig by the VIOE (Flemish archeological institute) near Ypres. These were the remains of two Germans who were killed in 1915-1916. The remains were handed over to the authorities after examination by an anthropologist.
