In this lecture, Dr. Rebecca Sonu discusses how using point-of-care for Hemoglobin A1c can be a strategic advantage for monitoring and treatment of diabetes. The prevalence and incidence of diabetes is rapidly on the rise causing a global epidemic that needs to be addressed. By using point-of-care technology for the management and treatment of diabetic patients in well-developed, under-developed countries, remote, rural and low-resourced settings, the economic burdens and health impact of diabetes can be curbed. Testing for Hemoglobin A1c in diabetes patients can significantly aid in the control and treatment of the disease and has also recently been recommended by the International Expert Committee for its use in diagnosis.
