In an interview with WSJ, singer-songwriter Justin Vernon talks about how the internet played a significant role in the success of Bon Iver. Their debut album, "For Emma, Forever Ago," is an example of how an underground indie band can gain popularity and grow their fan base on the web. After posting an initial collection of songs on MySpace, word spread online organically through small music blogs and by word of mouth. Vernon offers advice for unknown musicians and artists.

  • I was there. It was during the summer, and that venue is known for being notoriously hot. It's in the basement of an old church - no air conditioning. It was easily 106-110 degrees in there.

  • @monstermunch26 The song he screams in at the start is the ending of The Wolves (Act 1 & 2) and the song in the background of the rest of the interview is Creature Fear. Both from For Emma, Forever Ago.

  • FYI Ignore the troll.. give him no attention, no energy, not one second of your time.
