Trains using the level crossing over Charlton Lane in south-east London.

From the early 1990's we see what I assume are EPB plus other trains in British Railways blue/grey livery and Network SouthEast livery.

From 1994 we see Class 365 'Networker' trains in Network SouthEast livery.

From 2011 we see Class 365 and 376 trains in the variaous SouthEastern liveries.

The film also shows the adjacent signal box from where the crossing is controlled and the nearby Charlton Lane tunnel.

  • Excellent video - we had several level crossings on the crowded main lines and often you had to let up to 5 trains pass by and so you lost up to 20 minutes. The young people don't understand what we are talking of.

  • @collieultimo There is (or was) an English city like this, causing chaos to road traffic right in the city centre. I think it is / was Lincoln... anyway, either something is going to be done or has been done to reduce the delays.

  • @citytransportinfo just so happens i live in lincoln and yes it is a nightmare. usually youll see just the one train, but sometimes 2 will go through and even 3. the signal box is no longer in use on the high street and it is all now controlled with new light signals. there are vids of it on youtube. i have read recently though that it is to become busier. ridiculous isnt it. btw newspaper articles have said the barriers are down for 40-45 minutes an hour.

  • @LondonTransportPhoto

I wish I had more...! If only back then I knew what I know now (YouTube, etc) I'd have filmed a LOT more. Not just EPB's either.

  • I like the way the car keep out of the keep clear area. LOL.

  • gotta love that "Clackety clack" sound
