As a Smith alum and vintage aficionado, it's really fantastic seeing this video clip!

smith college is a liberal institution under the guise of a conservative one.

wonderful old footage.i love this period of american history.i wish i had been alive in those days.people still had standards back then. There's always a sadness about this material because you know that most of these girls are now dead. Thanks for posting.

Wow...it's almost surreal. The campus looks just like I remember it and I graduated in '03. Cool.

amazing... the women have changed, but the campus looks the same!

Smith's art program is really good, and class sizes are super small. Message me if you have any questions, I'm a current student who knows a lot of people involved in art/art history.
nice vintage look. i love the old super-8 film footage.

Did they have Super 8 back in 1941? I think this may be 16mm. The films were thrown out in the 80s so I'll never know.

Wow, who would have thought that this short clip would be so highly regarded. It's one of my most popular videos! I had to cut out some of because my mom, the subject of most of it, didn't want to be seen but there isn't much more so you're not missing much.
Cheers,

Wow, JMG looks exactly the same! But imagine what those women would think of the Smithies today--I think we might be a bit different...

Turns out my step-niece, not step-sister as noted below (my mother's 2nd husband's grandchild) went to Smith, graduating from the first engineering class ever! So, we are well acquainted with today's Smithies! But yes, I'd say they are different to some extent. Just as smart though.
